NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Niagara Falls hospital is taking over the patients of a North Tonawanda doctor accused of handing out prescription pills without proper medical exams.
Dr. Matthew Bennett was arrested August 10th and charged by federal authorities with abusing his power to practice medicine. The DEA alleges the doctor accepted trivial items like large quantities of toilet paper and a gas grill for prescription narcotics.
Since his arrest, his patients have struggled to find doctors willing to take over their care. On Monday, the Niagara Falls Memorial Medical Center announced it will provide primary care services to Dr. Bennett's former patients.
The hospital is also working with the landlord to re-open Dr. Bennett's North Tonawanda office. In the meantime, patient appointments will be scheduled at the Summit Family Health Center in Suite 500 of the Summit Healthplex on Williams Road, Wheatfield.
To schedule an appointment, patients should call 278-4499.
