Lewiston man killed in crash honored

LEWISTON, N.Y. (WIVB) - The memory of a Lewiston man who lost his life on an icy road has been honored almost two years to the day he was killed.

Ryan Henderson had a great love of music and played in a band, when he wasn't working with developmentally challenged adults. The 35-year-old was killed two years ago when his car collided with an oncoming tractor trailer that had just left the Chemical Waste Management (CWM) landfill in Lewiston.

Ironically, his father Tim is among the residents who have been fighting to prevent CWM from expanding. They were successful in rerouting trucks going to CWM away from schools.

In Ryan's memory, the group called "Road Safe America" is donating a thousand dollars for musical instruments for students who can't afford them.

"The theme is that we can all be instruments of change if we just band together, and these instruments going to the school will carry on my son's legacy of music," Tim Henderson said.

CWM issued a statement saying, "The loss of Ryan Henderson was a loss for the entire community." It had no comment on efforts to shut the company down and stop its expansion in Lewiston.
