NORTH TONAWANDA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A 25-year-old substitute teacher has reportedly been fired by the North Tonawanda School District for having an "inappropriate relationship" with a 17-year-old female student.
The Tonawanda News quotes Superintendent Greg Woytila as saying Scott Miranto was let go last week.
Woytila was unavailable for comment Tuesday, his secretary told News 4.
North Tonawanda Police Chief Randy Szukala confirmed that the department's juvenile resource officer contacted building administrators at North Tonawanda High School, after the police department began receiving phone calls from the media. The officer interviewed the principal and several other staff members, but not Miranto himself or the student.
The high school staff conducted its own investigation, Szukala said. Based on the findings of that investigation, Miranto was fired but not criminally charged.
Szukala would not say if Miranto's relationship with the student was sexual in nature.
The age of consent in New York is 17.
