WHEATFIELD, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York museum that tells the story of the region's key role in the development of the nation's aviation industry is getting a new home.

The Niagara Aerospace Museum last displayed its collection of historic aircraft last year at the First Niagara Center, Buffalo's downtown arena. Exhibits have since been moved to the former Bell Aircraft plant in nearby Wheatfield, but the museum has been closed except by appointment.

The Buffalo News reports that museum officials plan to relocate to an empty terminal at Niagara Falls International Airport in Wheatfield. They hope to reopen at the new location in May.

The museum's collection includes the second-oldest Bell helicopter known to exist and a restored 1917 Curtiss single-engine biplane.

The Buffalo-Niagara region was a leading center for aviation development in the 20th century.
