BUFFALO, NY (WIVB) - Jacquie Walker reflects on the sacrifices made by a local Marine and his family and the way Western New Yorkers are offering their support.

Marine Staff Sergeant John Stanz was critically injured when an IED exploded under his military vehicle in Afghanistan. His parents were told he might not survive his injuries. Over several months he has made a remarkable recovery, but he is left with, perhaps, lifelong physical challenges including memory loss.

His struggle has affected his entire family and when Western New Yorkers hear the story of John Stanz' sacrifice, they are reaching out to offer support.
