NEW YORK (AP) - A college freshman is back on his feet, a day after getting knocked unconscious by a falling futon mattress in lower Manhattan.
Jesse Scott Owen tells the Daily News ( http://nydn.us/P0IEMF ) that he was on his way to class at Kings College Tuesday afternoon when he suddenly lost consciousness.
He says he woke up and people were putting him on the mattress, telling him that he got knocked out by it. Witnesses say the mattress fell 30 stories from a nearby roof and landed on his head.
Owen was taken to a hospital and treated for neck and back pain.
The freshman, who moved up from Florida three weeks ago, now laughs about it and describes the incident as "pretty absurd."
