Maid of the Mist name may be no more
New company will not utilize name on Canadian side

NIAGARA FALLS, ON. (WIVB) - The iconic name "Maid of the Mist" may be sailing off into the sunset.
A California company has been awarded a 30-year lease to run boats that will ferry tourists from the Canadian side of the gorge to the Falls. When Hornblower Cruises begins operations in 2014, the company does not plan to use the "Maid of the Mist" name.
Company officials also say they don't want to share space with operators on the American side. That move could mean a lot of trouble for Maid of the Mist on the U.S. side, which might not be able to survive without dock space on the Canadian side.
