FORT ERIE, ONT. - A Southern Ontario landmark, the Point Abino Lighthouse, will be undergoing a major facelift.
The historic site has deteriorated over the years but will now undergo major renovations costing more than $1.4 million.
The Fort Erie town council on Monday approved earmarking funds from the town's facilities maintenance reserve fund and will rely on a $425,000 grant from Parks Canada.
The lighthouse as decommissioned in 1995 and designated a national historic site by the Canadian federal government. The Point Abino Rd. South property was purchased by Fort Erie in 2003. It was built in 1917.
