NIAGARA FALLS, ONT. (WIVB) - A destructive chain of events caused chaos on the QEW on Wednesday in Niagara Falls, Ontario.
An elevated tractor trailer slammed into the Lundy's Lane overpass. The trailer broke off and fell on to a car, injuring a woman inside. A worker at a nearby hotel ran over to help the woman, ho was rushed to a hospital. Her condition is not known.
Richard Ludchen, who witnessed the crash, said, "She was wandering around, she was in shock, wandering around the middle of the highway. So I grabbed her and said, 'C'mon you got to get off the road.' And she kind of got away from me a bit so I grabbed her and put her back into the car, helped her to the side of the road, I put her down."
We're told the truck driver kept on going even after hitting the bridge and was finally pulled over. An hour later, a truck rear-ended another semi that had slowed down because of the initial crash. The second crash caused a haz-mat spill. The trucker who was hit was also rushed to a hospital.
Crews on the scene say it will be days if not weeks before the damage is repaired.
