LOCKPORT, N.Y. (WIVB) - It was two years ago when police say a pit bull sodomized a young boy in Lockport. Now, the case is going to a grand jury.

Daniel Macrae said, "It's very horrifying. It's something I'll never forget."

Macrae is still haunted by the image, "I don't know how anyone could forget a sight like that. It's something that doesn't happen every day."

Macrae was one of the neighbors who pulled a pit bull off of a two-year-old Lockport boy two summers ago, after he saw it pin down the toddler and sodomize him, causing serious injury.

Wednesday, Macrae claims he was called to testify before a Niagara County Grand Jury about what he saw.

Does he think the dog sodomized the child?

Macrae said, "Oh, there's no question about it."

The District Attorney's Office would not confirm any Grand Jury activity, other than to say this particular case remains an open investigation.

At the time of the attack, police said the toddler had just removed a dirty diaper when his mom sent him into another room for a new one. A short time later, she discovered the dog had mounted the boy. It's remains unclear what possible charges, if any, could be filed against anyone in that home.

People across the globe reacted with disbelief when the case made the news. Many viewers e-mailed News 4 saying it didn't make sense, and feared the dog might be euthanized.

The dog is now in a foster home, showing no signs of agression.

One pit bull owner is not surprised.

Lockport resident Paul Collopy said, "I have a couple dogs myself and dogs don't just exhibit that behavior; something had to be going on that wasn't right."

Some dog experts believe the dog must have been trained to act in this way. Others disagree.

Macrae doesn't know what to believe, "The dog wasn't aggressive. It was a well behaved dog. It's just baffling how something like this could take place."

At the time, the toddler underwent major surgery. He's now about four-years-old. News 4 was told that he recovered well, and remains in the care of his mother.

If a grand jury is looking into the case, a decision could come anytime between now and the end of the month.
