GRAND ISLAND, N.Y. (WIVB) - A crusader for smaller government stopped at Grand Island Town Hall Thursday afternoon to submit petitions for a downsizing vote.

The town's board has five seats. More than 1,000 people signed Kevin Gaughan's petition to eliminate two seats from that board.

Gaughan said, “This is an historic opportunity to reverse this chronic economic decline that has gripped us now for over 35 years, which I think reflects a broad support for this type of change.”

The downsizing vote would take place in September.
