WASHINGTON, D.C. (WIVB) - A bill to restore unemployment benefits to millions of Americans cleared a major hurdle on Tuesday.
The extension measure passed in the Senate with enough Democratic votes to break a Republican filibuster. The battle of extending benefits has been raging for months now, with Republicans claiming it would only increase the national debt.
It's not a done deal yet. The bill now heads to the House.
