WESTFIELD, N.Y. (WIVB) - In the southern tier, where fast-moving flames tore through a Chautauqua County home.

Firefighters from eight separate companies were called to the scene on North Portage Road in Westfield, Sunday afternoon.

Investigators believe a grease fire started in the kitchen and then quickly spread to the rest of the home.

Chautauqua County First Battalion Coordinator Anthony Faso said, “The homeowners were home cooking in the kitchen. We had a grease fire that started, got out of control, went up into th walls and from that point on we couldn’t follow it fast enough to catch it.”

Two cats were killed, but everyone else did get out safely. The home is a total loss.
