NAPOLI, N.Y. (WIVB) - A crash involving a car and an Amish buggy killed a horse and sent two people to the hospital Wednesday night.
State Police were called to Route 242 in the Town of Napoli in Cattaraugus County, where they say the driver of the buggy pulled from a house's driveway and into the path of a car. The buggy driver, 24-year-old Joe Hostetler, told police he did not see the car and police say the driver of the car had no time to react.
The crash destroyed the buggy and News 4 is told the horse slammed into the car's windshield, rolled over the car and was killed instantly. Driver 65-year-old Michael Wargo and 60-year-old Marie Wargo were inside the car, and Marie Wargo needed to be extricated.
Both the driver and the passenger were taken to an area hospital. Hostetler refused transportation to the hospital.
No driver's license is required to drive a bugger in NYS and no ticket was issued. There is no word on other possible charges in the crash.
