MINA, N.Y. (WIVB) - Deputies are investigating after a delivery van traveling on the I-86 was hit by a rifle round.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office says the van was hit Wednesday around 9:15 a.m. while driving west on the highway in the Town of Mina approximately three miles east of the Findley Lake exit. Deputies believe someone hunting in the area may have fired the shot and unintentionally hit the van.
"Anyone out hunting needs to make sure of their target as well as beyond. Too often the projectile may go through their target, and if they don't know their backdrop in where they're shooting, it could be a danger," said Chautauqua County Sheriff's Lt. James Quadrone.
The round hit bottles in the van, but thankfully missed the driver. Anyone with information should contact the sheriff's office at 753-2131.
