DUNKIRK, N.Y. (WIVB) - The power of a disabled Dunkirk man's story has become an inspiration, and WNYers are reaching out to help Miguel "Mikey" Gonzalez.
Watching videos of Mikey being bullied resonated with a lot of WNYers and inspired "Spoke Folk" to give him something that he can enjoy: a new bike!
Spoke Folk has been around for five years and promotes a healthier community one bicycle at a time. With help from SUNY Fredonia, they provide bikes to people who need them as transportation, help build bike paths and work to make sure every child who wants a bike has one.
And after seeing what Mikey has been going through and knowing how much he loves riding his bicycle, they say helping him is a natural fit.
Thomas Crane of Spoke Folk said, "I've seen this going on before the story came out. You could see this going on for quite a while and I'm glad somebody finally brought it out."
Richard Goodman of Spoke Folk added, "Why don't we provide Mike, or Miguel as he likes to be called, with a new bike because I can't think of a better reason to be around than that."
