Driver loses control, hits church

HUME, N.Y. (WIVB) - State Police are investigating a crash that sent a 2007 Ford Focus sailing into the side of a church.

Troopers say 21-year-old Alex Potter of Hume lost control of his vehicle on Rt. 19 in Hume around 2:45 in the morning on Thursday. Jones went off the road, hit a sign, and then hit the foundation of the church. There is no word on the name of the church or the extent of the damage.

Potter was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital where he is listed in critical condition. The passenger in the vehicle, Christopher Jones of Fillmore, was flown to ECMC and is undergoing surgery for non-life threatening injuries.

Troopers continue to investigate and say alcohol and excessive speed are believed to be factors.
