ASHFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) - Many neighbors and businesses in Cattaraugus County want to see the Route 219 project get back on track.
Work on widening the 219 to a four-lane highway hit a roadblock five years ago when the state slashed funding for the project. Now community leaders are fighting to get that funding back in the state budget.
Town of Ashford Supervisor Chris Gerwitz said, "If we can get this finished it'll help the small towns without having the big trucks travel through towns. So I think it will be more economical and safe for the public."
Planners say it will take another 10 years to finish the 20-mile project.
