Jamestown residents rally against hate

JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) - Dozens of people took a stand against hate before Monday night's City Council meeting in Jamestown.

They were there to show their support for Council President Greg Rabb, who is openly gay. When asked recently by the Jamestown Post-Journal how to improve the city, Rabb suggested Jamestown market itself as a same-sex marriage destination. Three days later, the paper published a letter from a reader who said Rabb should lose his seat for pushing his, "personal agenda."

"It's the law. If a same-sex couple contacts me and asks me to be married, I have no authority to say no. Not that I would want to. But I have no authority to say no. They are entitled as long as they meet the legal requirements. And we already have same-sex marriage," Rabb responded.

The Council President added the majority of people in Jamestown are tolerant of diversity.
