STOCKTON, N.Y. (WIVB) - A father and son out hunting had to be rescued when they lost their bearings and became mired in a swamp.
The Chautauqua County Sheriff's Office responded to Bear Lake in the Town of Stockton around 2 p.m. on Monday to rescue 55-year-old Brian Meyer of Dunkirk and his son, 20-year-old Patrick. Authorities say the pair had lost their bearings and were stuck in mud and water in a swamp at the edge of the lake when they used a cellphone to call for help.
Rescue efforts were hampered by the mud and trees. Brian was taken to Brooks Hospital to be treated for hypothermia. Patrick was treated at the scene and released.
Deputies were assisted by the Chautauqua County Water Emergency Team, Stockton Fire Department, New York State Police and Alstar ambulance.
