SALAMANCA, N.Y. (WIVB) - A teacher suspended over charges he sexually abused a 15-year-old female student is going back to work.
The Salamanca Press reports science teacher Shane Riethmiller has been given a position in the district office. The superintendent explained at Tuesday night's school board meeting that as a tenured teacher, Riethmiller has the right to be employed and receive compensation. However, the district retains the right to assign him to a position.
The job in the district office, which will mostly involve paperwork, will ensure that Riethmiller does not have contact with children. Riethmiller was previously suspended by the school board.
His court case continues. Riethmiller pleaded not guilty in January to having sexual contact with the girl and exchanging sexual text messages and pictures.
