JAMESTOWN, N.Y. (WIVB) - Jamestown is celebrating the unveiling of a train station restored to its glory days of yesteryear.
Friday was the grand opening and ribbon cutting of Jamestown Gateway, once known as the "Erie Lackawanna Railroad Station. It stood vacant for several years and then received $12 million worth of improvements. Officials were proud to unveil this repolished jewel.
Lee Harkness of Jamestown Redevelopment said, "Everything is done. The main lobby and so forth is exactly as it was originally. It's been under the guidance of SHIPBO and National Parks. Can't change much when it comes to that, so you're pretty much going to see the original building."
The 18,000-square foot building opened in Jamestown in 1931. The last passenger train to pass through stopped there in 1970.
