AMHERST, N.Y. (WIVB) - 19-year-old University at Buffalo freshman Jonah Dreskin was found dead on Core Rd between the Spaulding and Willekson Residence Halls around midnight Wedensday on the university's north campus.
Police are trying to find out what happened to the college freshman.
UB Chief of Police Jerry Schoenle said, "We don't know if this was accidental. We don't know if he fell because there is a residence hall there right in front that is very high, if he fell from one of the floors up there [or] if he was struck by a vehicle, a victim of a hit and run accident."
News of the tragedy spread quickly across the sprawling campus.
UB student Emily Page said, "It's hard to take in."
Page tells News 4 she had met Jonah on several occassions, "He seemed like a very nice kid, very outgoing. His roommate seemed to like him."
Farid Kustiro and his girlfiend won't soon forget the sight of the Westchester County native in desperate need of help.
UB student Farid Kustiro said, "He was unresponsive. His eyes were rolling in the back of his head."
Chief Schoenle said, "We haven't had an accident of this nature in many years here."
Investigators are checking surveillance video to see if it will give them a clue as to what happened in the tunnel area of Core Road around the time of the incident.
Dreskin lived in Spaulding Hall, just a short distance from where he was found.
One student expressed concern over the time he says it took for paramedics to arrive.
Kustiro said, "And it took about 10 to 15 minutes before the ambulance came. And that was crucial because everybody was just watching the poor kid just helpless."
Investigators at UB are hoping to get help from anyone who may have been in the area Wednesday night so they can figure out what happened.
Results from the autopsy are expected in the next few days.
