Tonawanda man faces murder charges

Shepherd did not enter a plea at his arraignment

BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - A Town of Tonawanda man accused of killing his wife with a sword, was arraigned on second degree murder charges late Friday afternoon.

Police say 58-year-old Stephen Shepherd killed his wife, 42-year-old Constance Shepard, by slitting her throat with a sword.

Her body was discovered Wednesday morning in the couple's home on Sunset Terrace.

Stephen Shepherd was arrested in the Catskills Thursday afternoon.

Shepherd did not enter a plea at his arraignment and will be assigned a public defender.

The judge remanded him to the Erie County Holding Center without bail. Shepherd will return on May 28th for a felony hearing.
