LEROY, N.Y. (WIVB) - A retired pastor and another man died in a head-on crash in Genesee County.
Doctor Raymond Sissel was heading north bound on Route 19 in LeRoy when his Dodge van crossed over into the south bound lane by North Road.
The 84-year-old pastor struck a Nissan Altima head-on before slamming into a dump truck traveling behind the car.
New York State Trooper Rebecca Gibbons said, "There is a slight hill and a slight curve at this area. It's a no passing zone as well, all of that. Our accident reconstruction team is on site and they're taking that into consideration as well."
Both Dr. Sissel and the driver of the Nissan, 64-year-old Martin Muszak, died at the scene. The driver of the dump truck was not injured.
The stretch of Route 19 can be a dangerous one at night. But the accident happened at 7:45 Tuesday morning. As far as investigators know, it is not a problematic area.
Gibbons said, "Not that I'm aware of. I do not know that. However, as you can see down the road there is a slight curve and along with that no passing zone not a safe pace to be in another lane."
Dr. Raymond Sissel served 17 years as the pastor of Calvary Baptist Church before becoming pastor at Roanoke Community Church.
He continued to work at his electrical business, Sissel Electric. He leaves behind his wife and several children as well as grandchildren.
