BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Last weekend's wild weather had a record number of western New Yorkers sending Newstracker pictures into WIVB.com.

WIVB's Newstracker system is unique because it allows our viewers to become involved in the news gathering process.

The wild weather over the weekend generated a record response from our viewers.

Hundreds of photographs and videos came in from our Newstrackers capturing the tornadoes and the damage they left behind.

Dennis Wilson of Darien said, "I went back in the house and grabbed my cell phone and started shooting the footage you saw on TV."

Jessica Pangborn of Onoville said, "It was actually on my digital camera. It has a video feature and I brought it along on our little fishing trip, and it's a good thing I did."

The Newstracker process isn't just limited to weather either. If you witness a fire, crash, crime or anything else you think is useful feel free to send it to News 4.

In the event of a breaking news story, your captured images may be used on air to give viewers an initial visual of the scene.

The process to become a Newstracker is very easy and there are several ways you can get photographs to News 4. One way is by using a cell phone. Just snap a photo or video with your cell and e-mail it to newsroom@wivb.com.

Another way to submit your photos or video is by using a digital camera. Then head to WIVB.com and under the " Participate " tab click on "Photos." That is where you'll enter your e-mail address, upload your image and select the category it falls under.

Then click "Submit."

The advent of cell phone cameras has helped News 4 expand our Newstracker system because now you don't need a computer to submit a photo.

Instead, you can e-mail your images directly to our newsroom from your cell or submit them through WIVB.com.

Last weekend's wild weather was living proof of how powerful the Newstracker system can be, and News 4 urges more of you to join the ranks.
