WARSAW, N.Y. (WIVB) - After a week of cat and mouse with the media, the Warsaw School Board announced Tuesday night it has accepted the resignation of the district's superintendent.
Valerie Burke was arrested and charged with DWI in May of 2011, news that only came out last week. Since that time, the school board has had three meetings, all of which where members went into executive session. News 4 was at two of the meetings and board members refused to comment on the situation.
While these meetings were being held, Burke was not at school. News 4 was told by the superintendent's office that Burke was "taking some time off."
Elementary principal Stephen Saxton has been selected as the interim superintendent as the Warsaw district looks for Burke's replacement.
The board would not release any other information about Burke's departure, including if her resignation was voluntary.
