PERRY, N.Y. (WIVB) - A library in Wyoming County is making changes after drafting a policy that upset local veterans.
The Village of Perry Public Library had initially drew up plans that would have restricted visitations and the ability to hold ceremonies and lay wreaths at a gravestone on its property. But board members are now re-writing the policy to accommodate veterans who voiced their concerns.
Bill Zintel of American Legion Post 350 said, "This is what I wanted to come here for to make sure we have that right, to honor our dead. Period."
"This is public, but a board is looking over the library and people wouldn't expect to put up a sign or a flag pole somewhere else without the boards permission, such as a school property or post office for instance," said Perry Library Director Peggy Parker.
The library board plans to vote on a new draft plan next month.
