Gay marriage opponents target Grisanti

ALBANY, NY (AP) -  The National Organization for Marriage is using billboards to take a whack at the key state lawmakers who voted to legalize gay marriage in New York last summer.

The organization is targeting state Sens. Mark Grisanti in Buffalo, Stephen Saland in Poughkeepsie, James Alesi in Rochester, Roy McDonald in Saratoga Springs and Shirley Huntley in Queens.

They are legislators in partly conservative districts who the organization thinks can be defeated over their June vote.

The National Organization for Marriage is taking credit for the defeat of David Weprin in his run for Congress from Queens after supporting gay marriage.

Those who voted for the landmark change in New York are also receiving strong support from the other side in the form of campaign contributions.

The legislative elections are next fall.
