Buffalo, N.Y. (WIVB) - News 4 Senior correspondent Rich Newberg has learned that the City may be close to hiring 55 new Buffalo firefighters.
Sources tell Newberg that as many as 140 potential recruits have been interviewed by fire officials.
The new firefighters must meet certain civil service requirements as well as pass an agility test.
Back in May, News 4 reported that the mayor’s budget provided for 55 new hires. The Brown Administration would not comment on how imminent the hiring may be.
Newberg has learned that the fire department is hoping that the announcement could come as soon as the end of this week. No breakdown in race or gender is known at this point.
