ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) - The Bills signed two players, neither with much NFL experience. Wide receiver P.K. Sam was a 2004 draft pick of the Patiots, who's also been with the Dolphins, Raiders and Bengals. Sam's played in 2 NFL games, with no catches. He's a 6-3 wideout from Florida State, who spent 2008 in the CFL with the Toronto Argonauts.
Center Marvin Philip is a former draft pick of the Steelers in 2005. He's also been with the Browns, and spent 2008 on the practice squad of the Saints. He blocked for Marshawn Lynch when both played at California.
Neither has been able to stick on an NFL roster, but both play positions of need for the Bills. 2008 centers Melvin Fowler and Duke Preston are both unrestricted free agents. Its a position the Bills are expected to address in free agency or the draft. With James Hardy out for the offseason following knee surgery, the team could be looking for another big receiver.
As we've seen with past signings of players like George Wilson, Jon Corto and Bryan Scott, you can never right off what looks like an unexciting signing. Both Sam and Philip will have a tough time making a roster that will be bolstered by draft picks and free agent signings.
