BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Buffalo Bills are wasting no time scoping the field for a potential new head coach.
They've got a major reconstruction job rebuilding the Buffalo Bills football department. And NFL sources tell News 4 the Bills are committed to an overhaul. Bills officials, including team owner Ralph Wilson, are said to be ready to hire a football czar, a general manager or director of football operations, someone to oversee the team on the field.
ESPN reports that the Bills have already contacted former Denver Broncos coach Mike Shanahan. ESPN's Adam Schefter reporting that the Bills are arranging a meeting with Shanahan and he's willing to listen. Meantime, the interim head coach took over today. It was Perry Fewell's first-ever practice as a head coach.
The bills interim head coach didn't have to introduce himself to his team. Perry Fewell says he acted like Perry Fewell.
Fewell has already made one major decision - benching Trent Edwards and naming Ryan Fitzpatrick as this week's starting quarterback.
One other change, according to Bills players, the addition of pads. The team wore shoulder pads for at least a portion of today's workout, a departure from the Jauron era.
