SYRACUSE, NY (WIVB) - Syracuse basketball point guard Jonny Flynn is going to take a look at the NBA. Sources close to the Niagara Falls native tell News 4 Sports Flynn will put his name in, to be eligible for the NBA draft this June. But he will not hire an agent.
By doing that, Flynn maintains his eligibility at Syracuse, and gives himself a chance to return to the Orange next year. As long as he does not hire an agent, that option is open to the standout guard.
Flynn and his advisors will talk later this week to formalize his decision, but he's decided to test the waters and see where he might be drafted. By declaring himself eligible for the draft, Flynn would be invited to workout camps where NBA scouts could evaluate his game and give him a better idea of where he might be drafted by the league.
The NBA deadline for declaring interest in the draft is April 26th. Underclassmen who enter the draft can remove their names from consideration up until June 15th. The draft is June 25th.
