EDMONTON (WIVB) - They scored 10 seconds into the game. They scored 1:11 into the game. Actually, they never stopped scoring. The Sabres opened a four-game Western road trip with a dominating 10-2 win in Edmonton.
Drew Stafford scored the first goal, and that set the tone for the rest of the game. Nathan Paetsch added a score one minute later. Derek Roy also scored to give Buffalo a 3-0 lead after one. Stafford finished with a hat trick, and those three goals were special. He was playing his first game in Edmonton, where his uncle Barrie is the Oilers equipment manager. Drew spent time in the Alberta city as a kid.
In the second, the goals came from former Oiler Jochen Hecht, Tim Connolly, Thomas Vanek and former Oiler Jaroslav Spacek. Vanek's tally was his 29th of the season.
In the third, Stafford scored twice to finish off his second career hat trick. Connolly added his second.
Roy, Connolly, Stafford and Vanek each had three point games. Pominville, Connolly, AlesKotalik, Hecht, Paetsch, Clarke MacArthurand Craig Rivet finished with two points.
Ryan Miller made 36 saves.
The road trip continues Wednesday night in Calgary.
