PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) - Training Camp is officially underway for the Buffalo Bills, with the first practice session Thursday in front of a few hundred fans.
They piled in to see the team's new-look defense, led by Mario Williams, but it was the passing game that controlled much of the practice today.
The Bills wore helmets and shells on the first day, so 7-on-7 work and pass patterns dominated the day's action.
Rookie TJ Graham made a juggling catch early in today's session, earning a big response from the crowd. Stevie Johnson was a frequent target for QB Ryan Fitzpatrick, including a long gain when he was matched up against first-round pick Stephon Gilmore.
"It is a lot of the same install we went through in OTAs," said Fitzpatrick. "The biggest difference for me is (WR Stevie Johnson) is going to be on the field. He was not on the field for some of that stuff. Get him going a little bit. Maybe not on the first or the second day because of the coverages they are running and what we are throwing, bust to get that chemistry back on the field."
C Eric Wood and CB Terrence McGee were both held out of team drills while recovering from injuries. Wood is expected to join the lineup next week.
The Bills will be back on the field at St. John Fisher Friday from 3 - 5:30 p.m.
