Player Will Wear Full Pads on Saturday

PITTSFORD, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Bills have two days of training camp in the books, with the first full-pads workout looming Saturday.

With the NFL's more strict policy on training camp contact this year, Friday's practice again featured players in helmets and soft-shell shoulder pads.  That will change tomorrow.

"Tomorrow is the start of camp," said Head Coach Chan Gailey. "When you can put pads on, that starts camp. This  other stuff is good and important.  It helps us, but you really start to find out about your football team when you put pads on."

Gailey rotated players in all the contested starting spots over the first two days of camp. At left tackle, Chris Hairston got first-team reps on Thursday, with rookie Cordy Glenn taking his turn today.  Chris Kelsay was the first-team defensive end on the right side today, after Mark Anderson held that spot Thursday.

Gailey said he plans to continue that rotation until someone emerges at one of the positions.

Shawne Merriman had his ankle taped after slipping on the grass during workouts, but returned later in practice.  He tells News 44 Sports he is not concerned.  Leodis McKelvin left practice early due to illness.

Saturday's practice is set to run from 3pm until 5:30pm at St. John Fisher.  Sunday will be the first night practice of training camp, scheduled from 6:30pm until 9pm.
