Bills re-sign Shawne Merriman

Ross, Snow released; Howell returns

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - The lights are back on for "Lights Out" in Buffalo, with the Bills re-signing defensive end Shawne Merriman Monday.

The Bills released Merriman in August, but injuries to Mark Anderson and Spencer Johnson have zapped a lot of the depth along the defensive line.

"You can never have too many guys that we believe can rush the passer," said Head Coach Chan Gailey. "With Mark (Anderson) being out and not only Mark being out, but Spencer (Johnson) who is kind of our swing guy being out—we would rather not go into a game with just three defensive ends. We do not know how long Spencer is going to be, so we are going to sign Shawne back and hopefully he will give us some pass rush off of the edge."

Buffalo also re-signed safety Delano Howell today, releasing defensive tackle Jay Ross and offensive lineman David Snow.

In terms of injuries, Gailey says starting guard Kraig Urbik and Spencer Johnson have a chance to return this week. Starting left tackle Cordy Glenn is behind those two, in his recovery from an ankle injury.

The Bills will host the Titans Sunday. Tennessee announced today Matt Hasselbeck will start at quarterback, with Jake Locker still out with an injury.

Also today, the Packers claimed running back Johnny White on waivers from Buffalo.
