ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) - The Bills will have a new look in 2011. The team announced Tuesday that they will wear new uniforms next season.
In a letter to season ticket holders, the team says the new look will be unveiled at a fan appreciation event later this year.
The letter states that "the new uniforms will incorporate the team's storied history while keeping the team's signature charging buffalo logo. The Bills last made a change to their primary uniform prior to the 2002 season."
Bills Executive Director of Marketing Andy Major told News 4 Sports that the uniform change will not be a shift to last year's throwbacks, but a complete new design that will incorporate the existing charging Buffalo logo.
He also said that versions Bills fans may find on the Internet are "not accurate." You can see those images, that have been found on the Internet since last November, here .
That could indicate a cross between the recently introduced throwback uniforms, but may not include the standing buffalo logo that the team has worn on their helmet with the throwbacks, which pay tribute to the AFL Champions of the 1960's.
The current uniforms, especially the road version with the colored shoulders, have never been popular with BIlls fans.
While Nike will takeover NFL uniform design and manufacture in 2012, this new Bills uniform is not tied to that change. Reebok will continue to be the league's on-field sponsor in 2011, and will play a role in the Bills new look. Nike's radical uniforms, as seen in college football at schools such as Oregon, are not part of this change.
