ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - News 4 Sports has learned that the Buffalo Bills are bringing former Special Teams Coach Bruce DeHaven back to Buffalo.
The announcement is expected to be made next week. New Bills Head Coach Chan Gailey will name DeHaven the Bills special teams coordinator, as he continues to fill out his coaching staff.
DeHaven has spent the last 23 years as a special teams coach in the NFL. He spent 13 of those years with the Bills, from 1987-99, a span that included four consecutive Super Bowls. During that time, DeHaven was credited with developing two of the NFL's best all-time special teams players, Steve Tasker, who went to seven Pro Bowls, and Mark Pike.
He was fired by then head coach Wade Phillips shortly after the Bills January, 2000 playoff loss in Tennessee, the "Music City Miracle."
Since then, DeHaven spent three years as special teams coach with the 49ers, four years after that with the Dallas Cowboys (under Bill Parcells), and the last three years with the Seattle Seahawks.
