ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - An unexpected move after weeks of speculation around One Bills Drive. And one that has the Bills, current and former, talking.
The current plays were certainly as anxious to find out about who their next head coach was going to be. In their case, it's also their direct boss. So, they were anxious to find out about that and so far, the players feel good about Chan Gailey.
They have done some of their homework. The ones that News 4 spoke to talked to some of players around the league, guys they know and friends of theirs, and they are getting very good reviews. And the current Bills players especially like Gailey's experience. His 17 years in the NFL.
Bills linebacker Jon Corto said, "It's really important because, you know, obviously the more experience your head guy has the more experience and knowledge he's going to pass on to us as players. That's very encouraging. The guy's probably a wealth of knowledge as far as offensively and defensively. He's been around the block and you can learn a lot from a guy like that."
"It is exciting. I'm looking forward to working with him. I know him and Buddy Nix have had a past together being successful and his offense has always been successful. Even speaking with some people I've known who've played for him had good things to say. So, I'm excited, " said Bills wide receiver Lee Evans.
Lee Evans, in particular, excited he's going to have an offensive minded head coach and in this case, Chan Gailey will act as his own offensive coordinator. So, there will now be that direct link between offensive players like Evans and the head coach because he's going to be the one coaching them on the offensive side of the ball.
News 4 also talked to some former Bills players who as much as the current ones want to see things turn around and get back to the success of the past.
