ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) - The Bills replacements for two injured starters are ready to step up and into the starting lineup. The team returned to practice Wednesday, preparing for Sunday's home game against the Saints.
Jonathan Scott will replace Brad Butler at right tackle. Butler is out for the season after suffering a knee injury. Scott is a three year NFL veteran who started 6 games during his first two years with Detroit. He sat our most of 2008 before being signed by the Bills. The team did not pursue a veteran tackle because they believe in Scott.
"Carry the torch. It's as simple as that: you have to carry the torch. We've been brought in this league to play football, not to sit on the bench. Everybody, even though you may not be starting on Sunday, there are 53 men who are starters," said Scott.
While Dick Jauron would not specify, rookie Shawn Nelson will see a much bigger role in the Bills offense, not that starting tight end Derek Schouman is out for the year. Derek Fine and Jonathan Stupar are the other tight ends on the roster.
In other injury-related news, Leodis McKelvin was limited in Wednesday's practice after leaving Sunday's game with an ankle injury. Drayton Florence, who's been out since the preseason, was back and working in McKelvin's spot with the first team. Josh Reed sat out practice with a quad injury. Center Geoff Hangartner watched with a sore back.
