ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) - He's been living a dream for two season, as an Orchard Park native playing for the Bills. But Sunday against the Colts, Jon Corto may reach another special moment: hearing his name called with the starters. Becuase of injuries at the linebacker position, Corto figures to make his first career start.
The Bills were down to four healthy linebackers before activating rookie Ryan Manalac on Saturday. Safety Todd Johnson was placed on injured reserve, the 20th Bill placed on that list.
Only Paul Posluszny, Chris Draft, Corto, Josh Stamer and Manalac are currently on the roster at the linebacker position. Bryan Scott has been declared out, while Nic Harris was placed on IR Friday.
Corto's action has mostly been on special teams, where he's the fourth leading tackler. He's seen limited action at linebacker, mostly during the preseason and some during the game against the Browns.
"Yeah, its a great opportunity. I've been ready all year. I practice like I'm gonna play every game. When it comes down to it, when I got a shot here, its not like I'm starting from scratch," Corto said Wednesday.
Also listed as out for the Colts game are WR Josh Reed, OT Jonathan Scott, OT Andre Ramsey, WR Steve Johnson and QB Trent Edwards. LB Ashlee Palmer is doubtful. Jamon Meredith is the only other experienced offensive tackle, so he'll likely start at left tackle. Rookie Nick Hennessey was activated Friday.
The Colts have declared kicker Adam Vinatieri out for the game. RB Chad Simpson and DT Antonio Johnson are also out.
