ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) - The Bills banged-up defense took another blow Friday. Starting outside linebacker Keith Ellison is out for the season. The team's leading tackler has been bothered by a thigh injury. He had played in every game until missing last week's contest against Tennessee.
The Bills promoted rookie cornerback Carey Harris from the practice squad to take Ellison's roster spot. Harris was Buffalo's sixth round draft pick.
Ellison will be repaced by converted safety Bryan Scott, who started against the Titans. Rookies Nic Harris and Ashlee Palmer have also seen time at outside linebacker.
Ellison joins Leodis McKelvin and Kawika Mitchell as the third season-opening defenisve starter to be placed on IR. Nine players who started the season opener on defense have missed at least one game.
In other injury news, Marcus Stroud will miss his return to Jacksonville. The Bills defensive tackle has been bothered by a knee injury, and did not practice this week. DT Kyle Williams is questionable, which is big for the Bills because their only healthy defensive tackles are Spencer Johnson and John McCargo.
Safety Donte Whitner will return from his ankle injury. But fellow defensive backs Terrence McGee (knee) and Jairus Byrd (groin) are questionable.
The Jaguars will be without starting cornerback Rashean Mathis.
