ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - The waiting game is over. A new head coach is in charge at Ralph Wilson Stadium.
Chan is the man and the 15th head coach in Bills history. They introduced Chan Gailey at a news conference at One Bills drive.
Gailey's name was a surprise when we first reported it 24 hours ago. He was not on many people's list of potential candidates for the Bills job. But NFL sources tell News 4 Sports he was always on the Bills short list as a head coach or coordinator.
Chan Gailey's resume is lengthy and here are some of the
highlights:
+he spent two years as the Steelers offensive coordinator
under Bill Cowher
+he was head coach of the Dallas Cowboys for two years and
took them to the playoffs both years
+he took over the Dolphins for two years before going back to
college and coaching Georgia Tech for six years, he had six bowl
games in those six years
+and he spent the 2008 season as the Chiefs offensive
coordinator before being fired late last August.
He may not be the people's choice, or the choice of the pundits, but the Bills say he's the right choice.
General Manager Buddy Nix said, "With all due respect, I don't care. That don't bother me. I mean, everybody's got an opinion. You guys got a job to do and I'm not trying to make it difficult, I'm trying to help you do that. I understand it, but my job is to get us the best guy to help us win games."
New Head Coach Gailey said, "I can't say anything to change anybody's mind. All I can do is help us try to go win football games. We win football games, everybody's mind will be changed, right? That's what'll happen!"
So the Bills say, "Yes We Chan." Thomas Chandler Gainey, a 58-year-old native of Americus, Georgia. He was a college quarterback at Florida, part of Gator Nation. His wife is Laurie, he's got two sons and two grandsons.
