ORCHARD PARK, NY (WIVB) - NFL sources tell News 4 that Arizona assistant Curtis Modkins is likely to become the Bills new offensive coordinator. The news was first reported by a Phoenix radio station.
Modkins has long ties to Gailey, which explains why the hire makes sense. He was Gailey's running backs coach at Georgia Tech from 2002-2007. Modkins then joined Gailey in Kansas City in 2008. Gailey was the offensive coordinator, Modkins the running backs coach.
Last season, Modkins moved from the Chiefs to the Cardinals in the same position.
With the Bills, Modkins will have the title of offensive coordinator, but Gailey has already said he'll call the offensive plays.
Modkins is a former TCU running back who has also coached at TCU and New Mexico. He is 39 years old.
The hiring has not yet been confirmed by the Bills. None of Gailey's assistant coaching hires have been announced. News 4 has learned that Gailey will spend the next week assembling his staff, instead of joining Bills scouts at the Senior Bowl in Alabama.
