BUFFALO, N.Y. (WIVB) - Bills running back Marshawn Lynch has been sacked with a lawsuit.
This comes almost two years after an accident in downtown Buffalo.
Marshawn Lynch's guilty plea to a traffic violation, back in June of 2008, effectively wrapped up the criminal aspects of the hit-and-run accident. Lynch paid a $100 fine and gave up his driver's license.
"I apologize to Ms. Shpeley for any injury she suffered from," said Lynch.
But the running back's legal problems were far from over.
Lynch pled guilty to drug and weapons charges in California last March, leading to a three game suspension at the beginning of the regular season. Now he has Kim Shpeley's lawsuit.
Buffalo attorney Tim O'Connell filed the lawsuit for Kim Shpeley of Milton, Ontario for an unspecified amount of damages. In the suit, filed in Erie County Court, O'Connell claims Marshawn Lynch drove his 2008 Porsche Cayenne in such a reckless, careless, and negligent manner while in an intoxicated state that he lost control and struck Shpeley on May 31st, 2008 and then drove off.
While Marshawn Lynch is the only defendant right now, the accident did occur in the Chippewa District and O'Connell told us, if a downtown bar might have contributed to the Lynch's behavior, the lawsuit could be expanded.
