Bills Fred Jackson season is over

ORCHARD PARK, N.Y. (WIVB) - The Buffalo Bills most valuable player this season is out for the rest of the year. The Bills today have placed running back Fred Jackson on injured reserve.

Jackson suffered a fractured right lower leg in the Bills loss at Miami last Sunday. He suffered the injury after catching a pass in the third quarter of the game, when he may have been hit on the leg by a helmet.

X-Rays Sunday and Monday did not reveal the fracture, but an MRI conducted Tuesday showed a small break on Jackson’s right fibula, the non-weight bearing bone on his lower leg. Although the injury is not career-threatening, it was not believed Jackson would be able to return to the Bills lineup this season.

Jackson leads the league with six 100-yard rushing games this year, and he is second in the NFL with 1,376 yards from scrimmage. He’s the league’s third leading rusher with 934 yards on the ground.

Bills Head Coach Chan Gailey says the Jackson injury is “disappointing news for our team and certainly for Fred. He was having a great year. The process for Fred to return to the field would most likely take him through the end of the season, so we have made the difficult decision to place him on injured reserve.”

Gailey says the Bills will start second year man C.J. Spiller at running back Sunday against the New York Jets.

And the Bills have claimed RB Tashard Choice off the waiver wire. He was cut yesterday by the Washington Redskins, after three weeks on their roster. Choice, the Dallas Cowboys 4th round draft choice in 2008, spent three plus seasons in Dallas and started four games with the Cowboys.
