Ralph Wilson Stadium - Typically, NFL fans turn and look away when their team plays its’ final preseason game. But the way the Buffalo Bills have played the last two weeks, Thursday night's preseason finale should be worth keeping an eye on.
Chan Gailey had the team on the practice field outside the field house Tuesday morning. And even though he won't play this week, running back Fred Jackson got in some work as he recovers from a broken bone in his hand. Jackson is still hoping to be back for the opener against Miami and he's wearing a special brace on his hand.
"I can’t grip the ball in this,” Jackson said showing reporters the brace. “It’s holding my hand in a certain position, and to be able to hold on to a football, I would have to be able to use it. We’re going to tweak it and see what they could do with it. They have some ideas of what they want to do, and hopefully, they can get to it."
"He’s rusty--he hasn’t done much of anything,” Gailey said, “and he’s had a hard time handling the ball completely. But he moved around pretty good. He’s in good shape, still. He takes care of himself."
Gailey says Marshawn Lynch will play Thursday night in Detroit, his first game since injuring his ankle in the preseason opener. Look for the starters to play the first quarter against the Lions.
The Bills have to tune up, but they also have to pick their team, with 22-more cuts to be made by 6p-m Saturday. The players on the bubble probably know where they stand and know how important this final preseason game is for them.
"There are some big decisions to be made,” Gailey said. “There’s a lot still out there and quite a bit will ride on this ball game for a few guys. Not necessarily a lot of the starter guys, but more of the other guys."
