Orchard Park, NY - The Buffalo Bills will be without TE Shawn Nelson for the first four weeks of the regular season. He's been suspended by the NFL for violating the terms of the league's substance abuse policy.
Nelson, who did not play Thursday night in the Bills preseason game in Toronto, will begin serving his suspension on Saturday, September 4th. He can return to the Bills active roster on Monday, October 4th, after the Bills fourth game of the year. He can continue to participate in the Bills preseason practices and games, until the suspension begins.
Shawn Nelson was Buffalo's fourth round pick in 2009, from Southern Mississippi. He started twelve games for the Bills last year and caught 17-passes, one of them for a touchdown.
He had been expected to compete for a starting TE spot on the roster this year, but Jonathan Stupar has been working with the first unit since the preseason began.
