Ralph Wilson Stadium - When the Bills open the season Sunday against Miami, it will mark the third consecutive year Trent Edwards will start a season at quarterback. The question this year--will he hang onto the job??
The Bills have already handed Edwards the game plan for the Dolphins matchup and they're counting on him to pick up where he left off in preseason. Edwards needs to stay healthy this year and the Bills say he seems to be getting better as the preseason moves along.
"If we can give him time and guys will continue to work, he's got a chance to have a very good year,” says Bills Coach Chan Gailey. “But we've got to keep progressing. I've seen a light at the end of the tunnel, and that's what you're looking for, a light at the end of the tunnel."
As he goes into his fourth season in the NFL, Edwards was asked this week if he feels more confidence in his game this year.
"I feel like I've been through a lot in my career here,” Edwards says. “I feel like I've seen it all. I've seen the highs and lows and I'm still standing here, I'm still enjoying the sport I love. That might mean I have more confidence, it might not."
Edwards says it helps that the Bills had success in the preseason offensively. He and his teammates will be back on the field Wednesday to continue preparations for Sunday’s game against the Dolphins.
